This one isn't about a hit on the field. According to a signed arrest warrant affidavit, TCU wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma was punched and kicked in the head while on the ground inside the Walsh Athletic Complex locker room on August 13 — allegedly by then-teammate Jacob Fields.

ESPN's Adam Rittenberg was first to surface the affidavit, and the details are brutal. Ezukanma reportedly lost consciousness during the attack and only remembers coming to in the training room, with teammates filling in what actually happened to him.
He was hospitalized for 3 days, August 13 through 16, including time in intensive care. Two separate CT scans confirmed the brain bleed, on top of a concussion and other head trauma. There were also concerns raised that Ezukanma didn't reach the emergency room until nearly 2 hours after the incident.
As for what allegedly set it off — the affidavit says Fields, a transfer safety from Louisiana Tech, believed Ezukanma had outperformed him at practice the day before. Fields, according to the report, later texted that he 'made an emotional decision cause how I felt played the last few practices' and offered to 'pay every hospital bill and then some.'
Fields was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and released on a $50,000 bond. TCU has already dismissed him from the program, but that's a fairly small consequence next to what's being alleged — kicking and punching a teammate in the head badly enough to cause a brain bleed.
TCU opens its season with this hanging over the building, and Ezukanma's own timeline back to the field, if there is one, is now the real story. Everything else about the Horned Frogs' 2026 opener is secondary to whether their receiver is actually okay.
