Terrion Arnold Goes Unclaimed, Now Free To Sign Anywhere

A former first-round corner just walked through waivers untouched, and the legal cloud hanging over him is probably why.

Terrion Arnold's time in Detroit is officially over. The Lions moved on from the corner, and every other team in the league got a look at him on waivers and passed. That's notable on its own for a guy who was a first-round pick not too long ago, but the backdrop makes it even more interesting: Arnold is reportedly dealing with legal issues in Florida right now, which almost certainly scared off any team willing to just claim him outright and inherit his contract.

Mike Garafolo first reported that Arnold cleared waivers unclaimed.

Clearing waivers unclaimed isn't a death sentence for a player's career, but it is a signal. Teams had a free, no-risk shot to add a young corner with starting experience and every single one said no thanks — at least for now. The legal situation is doing a lot of the talking here, since front offices tend to get cautious fast when there's an open case attached to a name.

Adam Schefter laid out the full situation: legal trouble in Florida, waivers cleared, now a free agent.

The upside for Arnold is that unclaimed doesn't mean unwanted. Now that he's a straight free agent instead of a waiver claim, teams can take their time, do their homework, and sign him on their own terms instead of being forced into a decision on a 24-hour clock. Schefter's follow-up made clear this is very much still developing, with visits reportedly on the table for teams that have already shown interest.

So now it's a waiting game. Arnold gets to pick his suitors instead of the league picking for him, but the legal cloud isn't going anywhere just because he's got a fresh jersey. Whichever team lands him is betting the talent outweighs the risk — and in today's NFL, that's a bet plenty of front offices are still willing to make.
