Trevion Williams Out For Season, Mississippi State Confirms

Trevion Williams finally got his first career start Saturday night in Columbia. By the fourth quarter, he was being carted off the field in a knee brace, and on Monday, Jeff Lebby made it official: Williams will not play again in 2026.

The injury itself was ugly in the moment but easy to miss in the box score. Williams went down rushing the edge with 1:01 left, Mississippi State already up big on South Carolina, and had to be carted off with a brace on his left leg. The Bulldogs still closed it out, 41-34, to open SEC play 1-0 and improve to 3-0 overall. Williams had a tackle on the day before he went down.

What makes it sting more is the timing. Williams is a fifth-year senior out of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, and Saturday's game marked his first career start after 33 games and 11 starts as a rotational piece up front. He'd finally worked into a bigger role, and it lasted one series before it ended in a cart ride.

Lebby didn't hide how much it hit him. "That dude has been through so much in his career," the coach said postgame, adding he was hopeful for good news on the knee but bracing for the worst "for Bam and for our football team." That good news never came.

For a Mississippi State defense trying to hold up a 3-0 start and a No. 24 ranking, losing a rotational veteran defensive lineman for the year is a real subtraction up front, even if Williams was never a household name in the box score. Depth on the defensive line is the kind of thing that doesn't show up until December, when bodies matter most in the trenches.

Mississippi State moves on to its next SEC test without him, leaning on whoever steps into that rotation spot. For Williams, it's another chapter in a career that's had more than its share of them — a senior season now over before it really started.
