Lincoln Riley just got his guy. Trey Wright, the 5'11", 185-pound quarterback out of Frisco Lone Star, announced Saturday he's committing to USC, picking the Trojans over a finalist group that included SMU, Arizona, Oregon and Kentucky.
This isn't a speculative flier. Wright just wrapped a sophomore season where he led all of high school football with 5,862 total yards and 59 touchdowns, throwing for over 4,000 yards while adding nearly 1,800 more on the ground, and he pushed Lone Star all the way to the 5A Division I state championship game. USC was reportedly the first school to offer a 2028 quarterback, with Riley making the call himself after seeing that tape.
The dual-threat profile has drawn an obvious comparison: Kyler Murray, the Texas native and Heisman winner who Riley coached at Oklahoma before either of them landed at USC. Wright leaned into it himself, closing his commitment announcement with a simple message for the fanbase: "USC Nation, let's get to it. Fight On!!!"
Murray noticed too. Not long after the commitment went public, the former Riley quarterback sent Wright a message welcoming him to the club he knows better than anyone.

A blessing from Kyler Murray is about as good as it gets for a quarterback recruit who's still 2 years from stepping on a college campus. It also says something about how USC is selling this pitch: not just to a 15-year-old with a big arm, but to a kid who's being framed as the next guy in a lineage that runs through Riley's system.
Wright won't sign anything official for a while yet, but the class of 2028 pledge gives USC's staff an early anchor at the position while they keep chasing bigger names in the classes ahead of it. Losing out on SMU, Arizona, Oregon and Kentucky in the process is a real recruiting win too, especially with programs like Oregon typically not losing many head-to-head battles for elite arms.
