Trey'Dez Green's LSU Injury Vs Ole Miss Puts Sam Leavitt in a Bind

LSU's 32-24 loss to Ole Miss was already a bad Saturday night. Then it got worse. Trey'Dez Green, the Tigers' best offensive weapon, went down in the fourth quarter and never came back under his own power.

Green had 4 catches for 60 yards when he went down with under 13 minutes left, with Ole Miss up 24-21 at the time. He couldn't walk off on his own, got worked on by trainers, and was later spotted on the sideline on crutches. There's no official diagnosis yet, and the injury hasn't been ruled season-ending, but crutches after a hit like that is never the update a fanbase wants.

This isn't a role-player going down. Green was second-team All-SEC last year with 33 catches, 433 yards and a team-best 7 touchdowns, and he'd been even better through 2026 — 10 grabs for 162 yards and a touchdown, a 16.2-yard average that made him the most explosive piece of LSU's passing game. He's the guy defenses had to account for on every snap.

That matters even more given who's throwing him the ball. Sam Leavitt came over from Arizona State this offseason as one of the top transfer quarterbacks in the country, a guy who'd already led the Sun Devils to a CFP berth. Losing your top tight end mid-transition to a new offense with a new quarterback is exactly the kind of thing that stalls momentum.

But for a Tigers team that already dropped a game to Ole Miss and needs every possession to count down the stretch, losing the guy who was their most reliable catch is a real problem — not just for this week, but for however long Green ends up sidelined.
