Stanley Cup Final Game 2 in Raleigh was the kind of game that should come with a surgeon general's warning. Down 2-0 and staring at an 0-2 hole heading to the desert, the Hurricanes flipped the script in the third period, starting with Mark Jankowski cashing in to cut it in half and breathe life back into PNC Arena.
Jankowski pulls Carolina within one with 7:14 left in the third, scoreboard ticking from 2-1 to a one-goal game.
From there it was a full-on Carolina avalanche. The tying goal came moments later, the building tilted on its axis, and Vegas — to their credit — tried to challenge their way out of trouble on what came next. The Knights lost the challenge, Carolina cashed the power play, and suddenly the team that was getting buried was up 3-2 with under 5 to play.
Carolina's first lead of the night, 4:35 to go, Svechnikov and Jarvis at the center of the celebration scrum.
Of course this is Vegas, and Vegas does not just go quietly into the night when there's a Cup on the line. Pull the goalie, throw an extra body out, and let Mark Stone do Mark Stone things. The captain buried the extra-attacker equalizer with Jack Eichel in on the celebration, and a building that was 4 minutes away from a tied series went silent.
Stone ties it late with the net empty, Eichel right there with him.
Ryan Whitney summed up the room watching this thing about as well as anyone could — Stone is just a different animal in these moments, the kind of player who shows up exactly when you need him to and exactly when the other team doesn't.

Overtime in a Cup Final is its own genre of television, and this one didn't drag. Seth Jarvis ended it, the Hurricanes mobbed him, and a series that felt like it might be slipping away from Carolina is now a best-of-5 with home ice neutralized. Vegas still leads the war — they've got Game 3 at home and a Dave Portnoy grievance about a waved-off Barbashev goal to fuel them — but the Canes earned the right to breathe again.
Jarvis ends it in OT, 4-3 Canes, series tied 1-1.
If the first two games are any indication, we're in for a Final. Down 2-0, up 3-2, tied 3-3, won in OT — that's a full season of momentum swings in one night. Sound off if you've seen a better Game 1 and Game 2 combo in recent memory. Most of us can't think of one either.
