UCF brings a Power 4 roster and a genuine playmaking upgrade at quarterback against an FCS-level opponent, which is about as clean a moneyline spot as exists on the schedule. This is the debut everyone in Orlando has been waiting on. Alonza Barnett III, the reigning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year who dragged James Madison to its first-ever College Football Playoff berth, puts on a UCF jersey for the first time in a game that counts. After James Madison's 2,806 passing yards and 23 touchdowns to go with 589 rushing yards and 15 more scores on the ground, Frost has a dual-threat weapon he simply didn't have during a rough first season back.
The Wildcats aren't walking into a fair fight. Bethune-Cookman finished 6-6 last year and 5-3 in SWAC play under Raymond Woodie Jr., who's built a respectable 22-11 mark in Daytona Beach, but stepping up to a Power 4 program on the road for a season opener is a different sport entirely. UCF also brings 10 returning starters into 2026, more than double what it had last fall, giving Frost some actual continuity to lean on as Barnett gets acclimated.
