The talent gap here is real and the market already reflects Miami as a heavy favorite to win the conference outright. This one has a plot. Mensah threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 34 touchdowns against six picks last fall, dragged Duke to the ACC championship, and then took his talents — and top receiver Cooper Barkate — down I-95 to Miami. The Blue Devils counter with Walker Eget, a San Jose State grad transfer who put up over 5,500 yards and 30 touchdowns the last two years, but he's still working back from reconstructive knee surgery and was limited all spring.
Miami didn't just add a quarterback, it added a receiver too, and the fit around Mensah is loaded — Malachi Toney posted 1,211 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, Mark Fletcher Jr. ran for 1,192 and 12 scores, and Barkate slots right back in with a passer he already has chemistry with. That's the version of this offense Duke built and Miami inherited.

Manny Diaz didn't win the ACC on offense alone. His defenses have historically been the identity of his programs, and Duke restocked that side of the ball through the portal this offseason specifically to keep pace while the offense figures itself out. If Eget's knee holds up and the defense travels well, Diaz has shown he can squeeze wins out of a roster that isn't the most talented on the field.
