This one's a fill-in game with real stakes attached for Wisconsin. Luke Fickell is in year 4 with a 17-21 record in Madison, and the offense that couldn't score has been rebuilt around transfer QB Colton Joseph, a dual-threat piece from Old Dominion who's been all but handed the starting job. Eastern Michigan brings its own quarterback answer in Noah Kim, who led the MAC in passing yards and touchdowns last year and returns as one of the more proven arms in the conference.
Wisconsin poured resources into the transfer portal this offseason, landing over 30 additions including Joseph and running back Abu Sama III, and the schedule-makers did Fickell a favor by steering the Badgers away from Ohio State, Michigan, Washington and Oregon this fall. Kim's continuity gives Eastern Michigan a puncher's chance to make this more than a laugher — he's got returning targets in Harold Mack, Nick Devereaux and tight end Joshua Long, and coach Chris Creighton's seat is reportedly cool for a reason: this group actually improved down the stretch last season. Wisconsin's counter is simply more talent and more depth, especially if Joseph's legs create the explosive plays that were missing from Fickell's offense the last two years.
By the time Eastern Michigan gets to Madison, Wisconsin will already have played Notre Dame at Lambeau Field and hosted Western Illinois, so this is as much a gut-check on early-season identity as it is a scheduling formality.
