The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is leaving Jacksonville for the first time in decades, and it's landing in a spot where Georgia hasn't lost a football game to Florida since Kirby Smart got the keys.

Georgia brings a proven starter, a defense that returns 8 starters, and 8 straight wins in this series into a game where Florida still hasn't named a quarterback. That gap in continuity alone makes Georgia the play here, even away from its usual rivalry backdrop. Sumrall's rebuild is real, but it's not winning this particular matchup in year one.

Florida
  • New coach Sumrall led Tulane to 2025 CFP
  • Fresh scheme, motivated to reverse skid
  • QB battle unresolved entering fall camp
  • 0-8 in series since Kirby Smart arrived
Georgia
  • Stockton returns with 24 TD, 5 INT last year
  • Defense returns 8 starters, elite unit
  • Lost Sugar Bowl quarterfinal to Ole Miss
  • Receiving corps revamped, still unproven

Florida shows up to Mercedes-Benz Stadium under a new regime. Jon Sumrall left Tulane's 2025 College Football Playoff run to take over a Gators program that stumbled to a 4-8 finish last season, and he inherits a quarterback battle that never got settled in the spring. Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo and redshirt freshman Tramell Jones Jr. both had their moments in the spring game without separating, and that competition is expected to bleed into fall camp and possibly the first couple weeks of the season.

Georgia doesn't have that problem. Gunner Stockton is back for his second full season as the starter after throwing for nearly 3,000 yards with 24 touchdowns against just 5 interceptions, adding another 10 scores on the ground. He was at his best in the fourth quarter last year, and Kirby Smart is building around that continuity while a defense that returns 8 starters anchors the other side of the ball.

The venue change is the real wrinkle here. Jacksonville's stadium renovation bumped the rivalry to Atlanta for 2026 and Tampa in 2027 before it's slated to return to its usual neutral-site home in 2028, so neither fan base gets its typical setup. For Georgia, still stinging from a Sugar Bowl quarterfinal loss to Ole Miss that ended a 12-2 season, this is an early measuring-stick game on the way back to the Playoff picture.

History weighs heavily on this one. Georgia has won 8 straight in the series, every one of them under Smart, and Florida hasn't found a formula to slow that down regardless of who's been at quarterback in Gainesville. Sumrall's calling card at Tulane was physical, disciplined football, and that's the identity he's trying to import — but doing it against a Georgia defense this deep, in his first season, is a tall order.

This is still the Cocktail Party, moved zip code or not, and there's a reason it's circled on SEC calendars every year. Georgia's chasing another Playoff run and has zero interest in letting a rebuilding rival snap an 8-game skid; Florida's just trying to find out what it has under a new coaching staff. Different stakes, same rivalry venom.
