Marshall's season so far has 3 very different games in it. Penn State shut them out 45-0 in the opener. They beat Middle Tennessee 28-26 at home, then won 30-24 at Missouri State. That makes 2 wins by 8 combined points, and neither one looked comfortable. Carlos Del Rio-Wilson was the Sun Belt's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and has started all 3 games. Saturday, September 26 is the kind of afternoon where that preseason billing should show up on the scoreboard.

Gardner-Webb is an FCS program in the Ohio Valley Conference, and Kris McCullough is in his first year as head coach. Marshall is only the second FBS opponent on their 12-game schedule. The trip to Huntington is a guarantee game, so the Runnin' Bulldogs get paid and get a look at an FBS roster.
