Virginia's quarterback room looks nothing like the one that carried the 2025 turnaround. Chandler Morris, the graduate transfer who ran the show for an 11-3 season, was denied a 7th year of eligibility by the NCAA and won't be back. Tony Elliott went out and grabbed Beau Pribula from Missouri and Eli Holstein from Pittsburgh to replace him, with Pribula the early frontrunner — though nothing's been officially announced. Across the field, UNC is dealing with its own version of that puzzle, minus the momentum. Gio Lopez, last year's starter, initially said he'd stay and then reversed course, landing at Wake Forest. The Tar Heels responded by bringing in Wisconsin transfer Billy Edwards Jr., but as of this preview there's no confirmed starter in Chapel Hill either.
The gap between these two programs right now isn't really about quarterbacks — it's about direction. Elliott took a team picked 14th in the preseason ACC poll and turned it into an ACC Championship Game participant and Gator Bowl winner, a run that got him named 2025 ACC Coach of the Year. Belichick's first season in Chapel Hill went the other way: a 4-8 finish, a six-year bowl streak snapped, and a CBS Sports "D" grade for his debut. Both staffs spent the offseason working the transfer portal hard to fix what broke, and that's part of why the market is still sorting out where this line should land this far out.

None of that changes what November 20 actually is: the latest chapter of the South's Oldest Rivalry, a series UNC still leads all-time but one Virginia has owned since the early 1980s. If Belichick's rebuild is going to show real progress, a trip to Charlottesville against a Coach of the Year program is a tough place to prove it.
