This one's a study in contrasts before the ball is even snapped. Noah Fifita is back in Tucson for his senior year off a 2025 season where he threw 29 touchdowns against just 6 interceptions, and Arizona is chasing another bowl trip after going 9-4. Northern Illinois, meanwhile, is walking into just its first Mountain West season under an interim head coach after Thomas Hammock bolted for an NFL job in February — about as chaotic an offseason as a program can have.
The bigger issue for the Huskies is what's behind center. Redshirt senior Jalen Macon and Ean Hamric have been trading reps with sophomore Brady Davidson and freshman Bryshawn Brown, and nobody outside the building really knows who wins that job by kickoff. That's a scary problem for a team that finished 2025 ranked near the bottom of the country in scoring at 12.3 points a game. New offensive coordinator Quinn Sanders has a track record as a head coach at Charleston, and running back Telly Johnson Jr. gives this offense at least one proven weapon, but there's a lot of rebuilding to do in a short window.
