John Mateer is the story on the visiting side. Oklahoma built its offense around him after a hand injury cut short his 2025, and through three weeks he's thrown for touchdowns in every game — but the offense around him has been inconsistent, capped by a 17-10 loss at Michigan that exposed how far the Sooners still have to go against a physical defense. Gunner Stockton has had no such trouble in Athens, going a combined 28-of-32 with 8 touchdown passes across Georgia's first two games before piloting a 45-17 SEC-opening win at Arkansas.

Oklahoma's protection has been a running subplot. Starting center Jake Maikkula missed time with a knee injury, kicking true freshman Noah Best inside before Maikkula returned to reclaim the job ahead of the Michigan trip — the kind of shuffling that tends to matter more against a Georgia front than it did against UTEP or New Mexico. Georgia, for its part, has been thin at cornerback and outside linebacker but hasn't needed the depth yet, given the margins it's been working with.

What's left is a straightforward question: can Oklahoma's defense, which held New Mexico to 185 total yards, keep this closer than the Sooners' first three scores suggest they're capable of on the other side of the ball.

Georgia's alarm still hasn't gone off.
