New coaches and rebuilt rosters need reps to gel, and there's no gentler way to find out where the holes are than a Week 1 trip into a ranked, returning Big 12 team's building.
Houston's depth additions in the transfer portal focused on the lines and secondary, which matters against an Oregon State offense that's still figuring out its identity under a new staff. If the Cougars' front seven can get after Murphy early and force him into mistakes, this could get out of hand fast. For Oregon State, the path to making it competitive runs through that linebacker group holding up and Murphy avoiding the kind of turnovers that plagued the position a year ago.
