Those question marks matter here. Starting left tackle Giakoby Hills is out for roughly 6 weeks after getting hurt against Rhode Island, and Keeler said the other tackle spot and a starting guard spot were game-time decisions this week. That's a lot of shuffling to ask of an offensive line about to face a Big Ten front seven.
The number on this one is enormous — Penn State's favored by more than 3 touchdowns on the road, and the moneyline treats Temple's chances like an afterthought. That's a reasonable read of the talent gap. It's a lot less reasonable if you remember the last time these two shared a Philadelphia field: nearly 70,000 people packed the Linc and watched Temple send Penn State home with a 27-10 loss.
None of that means Temple's about to pull it off again — this Penn State team looks considerably more loaded than that group did, and Becht gives Campbell's offense a level of proven quarterback play the Owls haven't had to solve yet. But a rebuilt roster on the road, in a building that's bitten the Nittany Lions before, against a team that just scored 38 of its own — that's worth watching before assuming this one goes according to the number.
