Oregon led 28-0 after the first quarter and never let off the gas. Jordon Davison ran for 81 yards and 2 scores on just 13 carries, Dierre Hill Jr. — whose fumble sealed the Oklahoma State loss — punched one in himself, and Evan Stewart and Messiah Hampton combined for 5 catches and 3 touchdown grabs. Once the game was decided, backup Dylan Raiola came in and added 3 more touchdown passes of his own.
Portland State never found a foothold. The Vikings managed just 2 rushing yards on 17 carries, and Oregon's defense picked off Gabe Downing 3 times, 2 of them by Jett Washington. It was the kind of night where the only real question was whether Oregon's reserves would clean it up or add to the pile — they added to the pile.
The pregame ledger had Downing playing the best ball of his season, coming off career highs against San Diego State, and safety Isaac Redford ranked 6th nationally in interception rate. Neither showed up: Downing finished 8-of-20 for 101 yards with 3 picks and no touchdowns, and Redford led Portland State with 10 tackles but never got his hands on one of his own defense's turnovers.
Oregon improved to 2-1 on the season and gets a much sterner test next: the Big Ten opener at No. 12 USC on Sept. 26. An 84-point night against a winless Big Sky team answers very little about whether the Ducks fixed what went wrong against Oklahoma State — that verdict waits for Los Angeles.
