South Carolina's slide has been longer and messier. They opened with a 57-0 win over Kent State and a 45-9 win over Towson, then lost to Mississippi State by 7, got buried 49-18 at Alabama, and let Kentucky score 14 unanswered in the third quarter to set up the overtime loss. The offense has scored 34 in 2 of those 3 losses. The defense is what's broken, and the fix gets harder with DL D. Stewart out indefinitely with a back injury.

Campbell52-3Before Missouri, Florida had looked like the real thing: 66 on Florida Atlantic, a 44-39 shootout win at Auburn, and 52 on Ole Miss at home. That makes the Missouri game a strange one. It was Jon Sumrall's first loss as Florida's head coach, and the run game everyone had been praising got stopped cold, as early as 5 tackles for loss on the opening drive. Missouri showed how to beat Florida's offense. The question is whether South Carolina's front, without Stewart and possibly without G. Brownlow-Dindy, has the bodies to do the same thing.
The weather could matter too. The early forecast calls for 89 degrees with light drizzle and a 64% chance of rain, which is a sticky, slippery afternoon for 2 teams that both want to run. A week out, that forecast will change plenty. What won't change: South Carolina is 0-3 in SEC play, and Sellers is the most dangerous player on the field. If the Gators' run defense looks like it did at Missouri, he can keep this a lot closer than the board expects.
