Virginia Tech counters with redshirt sophomore transfer Ethan Grunkemeyer, James Franklin's first quarterback pick since taking over a program that just finished 3-9. Neither guy has thrown a pass in this uniform yet, which makes this one of the bigger unknowns on either team's November slate.
The stakes are oddly specific for a game played in the middle of November. Stanford's own preview outlets have flagged this as one of three results (along with Cal and SMU) the Cardinal likely need to squeeze out a bowl bid in Pritchard's debut season.
