This one's a clash of two very different offseasons. Utah is walking into Friday, November 13 with a new head coach, a rebuilt offensive line and roughly 20 portal departures to sort through, while Arizona strolls in with its starting quarterback, its identity and its swagger fully intact. Devon Dampier is back under center for Utah after battling injury last year, with Byrd Ficklin still lurking as a change-of-pace scrambler. Across the field, Noah Fifita returns for a fifth season looking to prove 2025's breakout was the beginning of something, not a one-off.
Arizona's calm offseason stands out. Brent Brennan didn't lose Fifita or any other significant piece to the portal, and instead went out and added 24 transfers to round out the roster, including a batch of secondary help and O-line reinforcements. Both programs have a case for why this feels bigger than a random Friday night in Tucson. Utah is trying to show its 11-2 season and Big 12 credibility weren't just a product of Whittingham's system. Arizona is trying to show its 9-4 breakout, capped by a Territorial Cup win and a bowl trip, was the new baseline and not a ceiling.
