This one's a reunion. Vanderbilt and Florida used to play every year as SEC East rivals before conference realignment scattered the schedule, and now they're back on it for a late-November trip to The Swamp on Friday, November 20. Vanderbilt shows up with a new quarterback question of its own after Diego Pavia's Heisman-finalist run ended with him signing an NFL deal, handing the keys to five-star true freshman Jared Curtis. Florida shows up with a whole new operation: first-year coach Jon Sumrall, imported from a 42-11 run at Tulane, trying to find out what he's got with a still-unsettled quarterback battle.
Vanderbilt's calling card the last two years has been Clark Lea's program-building — back-to-back SEC Coach of the Year awards, four ranked scalps in 2025 alone, and a first-ever 10-win season punctuated by a 45-24 beatdown of Tennessee in Knoxville. Billy Napier got fired after a 3-4 start and the Gators finished 4-8, which is how a program with Florida's recruiting pull ends up hitting the reset button on both a coach and a quarterback room. Sumrall's bringing in Buster Faulkner as playcaller, and the Aaron Philo–Tramell Jones Jr. competition is still shaking out this deep into the offseason — the kind of uncertainty that makes betting markets nervous about Florida's floor in year one of a new system.

The bigger swing factor by kickoff will be how each new starting quarterback has grown up. Curtis was billed as the top overall prospect in his class and reportedly matched the hype in spring ball, but a true freshman making his 12th career start in a hostile SEC road environment is still a true freshman. Philo, meanwhile, gets a full fall camp and presumably a real body of 2026 tape to lean on by the time Vanderbilt comes to town — assuming Florida has settled the job by then. Both staffs have three-plus months to sort this out before it matters.
