Those 2 road games are the problem. Wyoming scored 13 points in one and 10 in the other, and nothing about a loud dome against a program that has spent 2 decades beating people in it suggests the offense suddenly opens up. The defense is what travels: it held Northern Colorado and Hawai'i to 13 or fewer, and that's the unit Wyoming will lean on to keep this from getting away early.

Indoors, the weather is off the table. Wind, cold and a wet ball can't slow the game down, so it's decided by whether Wyoming can move the ball at all. The first quarter matters a lot here. If Hughes and the offense come out stuck like they were in Fort Collins and Mount Pleasant, the Fargodome crowd gets loud and a 20-point spread starts to look reasonable.
There's a scheduling wrinkle too. Neither team plays again before this one, but Wyoming has to be at San Jose State on October 9, a Friday. That's a quick turnaround after a long Saturday in Fargo, and it could shape how Sawvel handles snaps if the game is out of reach late.
For North Dakota State the stakes are bigger than one Saturday. Beating an established Mountain West program by a lot would say the jump up a level has cost the Bison nothing. A close game, or a loss, would be the first evidence that FBS depth is catching up to them. For Wyoming it's a chance to make the conference's newest member look like a newcomer.
