Toronto limps into this one a season-worst kind of grumpy. Four straight losses before they finally snapped out of it, the offense has been swinging at everything that moves (second-highest chase rate in the league, per recent reporting), and John Schneider has been spreading the blame around the clubhouse rather than pinning it on Vladdy or anyone else. The vibes are not great. The pitching matchup, however, very much is.
Trey Yesavage is the story. The World Series breakout is back from the shoulder impingement that delayed his season, he made his 2026 debut April 28 against Boston, and he's carrying a 0.96 ERA into this start. The 1-1 record is just the Blue Jays offense not showing up for him — the stuff has been every bit as advertised. With Scherzer shut down, Berrios fighting elbow inflammation and Bieber still rehabbing, Toronto needs Yesavage to be exactly what he's been.

Don't sleep on Jack Kochanowicz either. The 6.81 ERA from last season is gone and the version showing up in 2026 is a different pitcher — over his last 4 starts he's 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA, leaning on a ground-ball rate north of 60%. Against a Toronto lineup that's pressing and chasing, a heavy sinker guy is a problem. This is not the easy spot the home favorite price suggests.
The Angels' catching room is a disaster — both Logan O'Hoppe and Travis d'Arnaud are on the IL — and the rotation is being held together with tape between Kikuchi, Grayson Rodriguez and Ryan Johnson all sidelined. Toronto isn't exactly healthy either, with Alejandro Kirk still working back from the thumb surgery and Addison Barger reportedly close to an activation. Plenty of names missing on both sides before first pitch.

Total sits at 8.5 with juice on both sides. Two starters under a 3.10 ERA, a Toronto offense that just had its plate discipline publicly called out by its own manager, and an Angels team that's lost 3 of 5 — the under has a real case here. The market clearly likes the Jays at home, but at -186 on the DK moneyline you're paying full price for a team in a slump. A 2:07 ET first pitch in Toronto, and the most interesting arm on the mound is the rookie nobody's solved yet.
