Saturday night at Petco, and the Padres already have a 1-0 lead in the weekend set. San Diego's at 30-20 and pacing the NL West. The Athletics are 26-25 but sitting first in the AL West, so this is a better matchup than the names suggest.

The headliner is J.T. Ginn, who last Monday in Anaheim carried a no-hitter into the 9th before Adam Frazier singled and Zach Neto turned around a 2-run homer to walk it off 2-1. 105 pitches, 10 strikeouts, a hard-luck L. He's been the A's most reliable arm and the 2.98 ERA isn't a fluke.
Lucas Giolito is the counter, making his 2nd start as a Padre after debuting against the Mariners on May 17. The 5.40 ERA is a 1-start sample. His rehab work in the minors was uneven (4.76 ERA across 17 innings), and he's pitching behind a rotation gutted by injury — Darvish, Musgrove, Pivetta, Marquez and Waldron are all out.

- Day-To-DayWei-En Lin P — Double-A Midland placed Lin on the 7-day injured list May 13 with a left quad strain.
- 10-Day-ILDenzel Clarke CF — The Athletics returned Clarke (foot) from his rehab assignment Thursday after he suffered a left hamstring strain while playing in a rehab game at Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.
- 10-Day-ILJacob Wilson SS — Wilson (shoulder) remains in the strengthening and stabilization portion of his rehab, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.
- 10-Day-ILMax Muncy 3B — Muncy (hand) has begun a swinging progression, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.
- 15-Day-ILBrooks Kriske RP — Kriske (shoulder) will be shut down from throwing for at least three weeks, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.
- 60-Day-ILGunnar Hoglund SP — Hoglund (knee/back) will be sidelined for the rest of the 2026 season after undergoing surgery on his left hip Monday.

- Day-To-DayJackson Merrill CF — Merrill (ribs) is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Athletics on Friday.
- Day-To-DayBlake Hunt C — Hunt is dealing with an oblique injury and has been shut down from activity, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
- 7-day ilJake Cronenworth 2B — The Padres placed Cronenworth on the 7-day concussion injured list Tuesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
- 10-Day-ILLuis Campusano C — Campusano (toe) has progressed to swinging in the batting cage and catching off a pitching machine, per MLB.com.
- 15-Day-ILMatt Waldron SP — Waldron (forearm) could take on a bullpen role when he returns from the 15-day injured list, MLB.com reports.
- 15-Day-ILGerman Marquez SP — Marquez (forearm) has progressed to throwing off a mound, per MLB.com.
- 15-Day-ILNick Pivetta SP — Padres manager Craig Stammen told reporters Wednesday that Pivetta was diagnosed with a right flexor strain, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
- 60-Day-ILJhony Brito RP — Brito (forearm) had his minor-league rehab statement moved from the Arizona Complex League to Double-A San Antonio on Sunday, per MLB.com.
The A's aren't exactly whole either. Jacob Wilson, Max Muncy and Denzel Clarke are all on the IL, and Clarke just had his rehab assignment scrapped with a hamstring strain. San Diego will likely be without Jackson Merrill again with the rib issue that kept him out Friday.
The market hates this game — a pick'em moneyline with split run-line numbers between books, and DK has the total at 7.5 while Pinnacle sits on 8. Public money on the Padres ML (67% of bets) is getting outweighed by sharp handle on the A's. Ginn going against a thin Padres lineup minus Merrill is the angle if you're looking for one.
