The Yankees are 30-19 and just shook off a rough Subway Series weekend by taking 2 of their last 3. The Jays are 9 games back of them in the AL East, banged up everywhere, and now they get to face Cam Schlittler at home. Good times.

Schlittler is the story here. A 1.35 ERA through 9 starts with 59 punchouts, 9 walks, and 1 homer allowed — per OptaSTATS, no MLB pitcher had put up that line through his first 9 starts since Walter Johnson in 1913. He went 6 scoreless against the Brewers last time out and shook off a 108.5 mph comebacker to the calf. That's the guy on the mound tonight.
Toronto counters with Trey Yesavage, who has been the one bright spot in an otherwise miserable Jays rotation picture. He didn't debut until late April after a shoulder impingement, and he's been on a soft pitch count — usually capped somewhere in the 65-85 range — but the results have been there. A 1.40 ERA over his early work is not nothing, even in a small sample.

And about that rotation picture: Berrios is getting elbow surgery, Scherzer is still rehabbing the forearm/thumb/ankle smoothie, Bieber is facing live hitters but not close, and Bowden Francis is on the 60-day. Alejandro Kirk's thumb still isn't right, Anthony Santander is on the 60-day, and Ernie Clement is out tonight with strep throat. Schneider is duct-taping a lineup together against the AL ERA leaders.
Market's read is pretty clear. Yankees -1.5 is the sharper number per the EV figures, but everything in this game prices as a small loser to the closing line — DK has the total at 8.5 while Pinnacle sits at 8, which is the kind of half-run gap that usually screams stay away unless you've got a real read.
Pick a side if you must, but this one has the shape of a low-scoring Schlittler showcase. Toronto needs to bank one of these 4 before the rotation thins out further. Hard to see it being this one.
