None of that changes much for Milwaukee, which is playing out its stretch run with real distance on the rest of the NL Central. The more interesting in-house story for the Brewers hasn't been the standings — it's been the lineup.
Christian Yelich and William Contreras spent a big chunk of the second half in a genuine slump, bad enough that Pat Murphy dropped both of them down in the batting order. Both have started finding the barrel again over the past couple weeks, which is a nice time for it given how close Milwaukee is to locking up the division.
On paper this looks lopsided — an NL Central runaway against a Reds team that's already conceding the year to develop talent. First pitch is set for 12:10 PM ET, but two games sit between now and then for both clubs: Milwaukee closes out a set with the Cubs first, and these two teams play each other twice before this one, so whatever bullpen or lineup picture shows up Sunday could look different than it does today.
Cincinnati's September call-ups lean young — outfield and catching prospects up from Louisville — which tells you where the organization's head is at. Eugenio Suarez is still doing damage in the middle of that lineup when he's out there, which is about the closest thing the Reds have to a reason to tune in.
