None of that mattered for 8 innings. Leahy was excellent, Nolan Fermín went deep, Alec Burleson kept driving in runs, and St. Louis built a 4-0 cushion that felt like it was going to hold up and salt away the series finale.
Then the Phillies bullpen game flipped entirely — on offense. Philadelphia strung together the biggest half-inning of the season, and it started with a Sosa double that cleared 3 runs off the bases in one swing to make it 4-3. A De La Cruz single tied it right back up, and Kyle Schwarber ended the whole thing with a 459-foot blast to center that put Philadelphia ahead for good.
It's the kind of finish that erases every complaint about the first 8 innings. Leahy's final line — 4 shutout innings before he came out — barely gets remembered next to a Cardinals bullpen that couldn't hold a 4-run lead in the 9th.
The win ran Philadelphia's streak to 9 straight and closed out the sweep of St. Louis, while the Cardinals limp away from Citizens Bank Park having dropped all 3 in a series they controlled for the better part of 3 games before completely unraveling in the finale.
