On the mound — starting pitchers.

First pitch is set for 6:40 PM CT at American Family Field, and the pitching matchup is the entire story. Trevor McDonald (2-2, 4.34) gets the ball for the Giants opposite Kyle Harrison, the former San Francisco lefty now putting up a 6-1 record and a 1.57 ERA in Milwaukee. Yes, that Kyle Harrison. Yes, against his old team.

Harrison's 1.57 ERA is the lowest mark by any pitcher in his first 10 starts in Brewers franchise history, ahead of CC Sabathia's 2008 stretch run. The Brewers are 8-2 when he starts and have won seven straight Harrison outings. He's coming off six scoreless against the Cardinals on May 26 with four hits allowed and zero walks. The Giants get him at the worst possible time and on the road, where they've been a tire fire all year.

Recent form.

Monday's opener was as ugly as it gets — Brewers 16, Giants 2, with Milwaukee piling up season-highs in runs and hits (18) without leaving the yard. Brice Turang snapped an 0-for-21 by reaching all four times, Christian Yelich and David Hamilton both went 3-for-5, and Jackson Chourio drove in three. San Francisco has now dropped six of seven and is staring down 23-37 with a road trip that keeps getting heavier.

Injury report — info via ESPN.

The injury board is a big reason the Giants look this thin. Both starting outfielders are out — Heliot Ramos (quad) and Harrison Bader (undisclosed) — and the bullpen is essentially a MASH unit, with Randy Rodriguez, Hayden Birdsong, Rowan Wick, Jose Butto and Jason Foley all on the 60-day. Tyler Mahle hit the 15-day with a hamstring strain last week too. There just isn't a lot of cavalry coming.

Pinnacle has Milwaukee at -207 with a 7.5 total, which feels honest. The Giants need McDonald to do something they didn't get on Monday — keep the early innings clean — and they need to actually make Harrison work a count. The Brewers have done that to him exactly zero times this year. Hard to see this one looking much different than 24 hours ago.
