The Giants showed up to Arizona scoring fewer runs than anybody else in the sport — last in MLB in total runs entering this series — and the lineup card keeps getting thinner. Jung Hoo Lee is out of Tuesday's lineup with a back issue, Willy Adames is nursing a bruised right thumb, and Heliot Ramos is parked on the 10-day IL with a quad strain. That's a lot of weight to put on Landen Roupp's shoulders.

Roupp has actually been the bright spot. He's 5-4 with a 3.49 ERA and just punched out 7 Dodgers over 5 innings in his last start — albeit with a season-high 5 walks. The command wobbled but the swing-and-miss stuff was real, and against an Arizona lineup that just dropped a series to Texas, he's the kind of arm who can keep this one quiet for a while.
Ryne Nelson is the opposite story arc. The 5.40 ERA is ugly on the back of the baseball card, but he entered May at 7.71 and has scrubbed it down with back-to-back quality starts — 8 strikeouts over 7 innings against the Rangers, then 6.2 frames of one-run ball against the Mets. If you want a reason the home team is the pick here, it's that Nelson's last two times out are the version of him Arizona drafted in this rotation.

Corbin Carroll is doing Corbin Carroll things and has been an MVP-tier bat in the desert all year, which is the kind of matchup nightmare a banged-up Giants infield doesn't need. Meanwhile San Francisco is still waiting on Logan Webb to make his rehab start later this week — help is coming, just not tonight.
The market has Arizona as a modest favorite, which tracks — better lineup, hotter pitcher, home dirt, and a Giants club missing its leadoff guy and shortstop. Books are nudging the total up to 9 too, which feels generous given both starters have been keeping the ball in the yard. If you trust the recent Roupp/Nelson trends more than the season-long ERAs, under is where the narrative points.
