San Francisco jumped out early against Bennett, building a lead before Boston's offense started chipping away. The Giants also lost shortstop Willy Adames mid-game to an apparent lower-body injury, another blow for a roster already stretched thin down the stretch.
The Red Sox answered with a 3-run fourth to flip the game and never let go of the lead the rest of the way, even as San Francisco clawed back within a run late. Boston out-hit the Giants and did it despite committing a couple of errors in the field, the kind of game where the offense simply outran the mistakes.
This one capped a series Boston controlled from the jump, extending a stretch where the Red Sox have won most of their last five while the Giants have lost most of theirs. San Francisco's season record has them buried in the standings, while Boston keeps building a case as one of the better stories in the league right now.
It's the kind of series that says plenty about where these two clubs are: one team finding a way, the other running out of healthy bodies to find one.
