Carson Whisenhunt started and worked 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs while striking out three and walking one. Jason Foley closed it out with 1.1 scoreless innings, no hits, no walks and three strikeouts.
Rafael Devers did the damage at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. The win came after a road loss to Cleveland on August 20 and three straight to Boston from August 21-23, which had San Francisco at 1-4 over its last five games. At 53-78, the Giants sit 27 games back of the division-leading Dodgers in the NL West, with an elimination number down to 5.

Per Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle, shortstop Willy Adames went on the 10-day injured list with a left elbow sprain, right-hander JT Brubaker went on the 15-day injured list with bruised ribs, and left fielder Victor Bericoto went on the 10-day injured list with a bone bruise in his right knee. Bryce Eldridge was also placed on the bereavement list.
MLB Trade Rumors tallied it at 10 roster moves announced by the club Monday. And the rotation may not be done absorbing hits — Whisenhunt, fresh off his scoreless start, will undergo an MRI on his left elbow Tuesday, per Rubin.

San Francisco is favored at home, and the market reads the game as low-scoring — a shape that fits a Giants staff that just threw a shutout and a Reds lineup facing a pitcher working off a strong final line last time out. For that number to hold, Houser needs to look more like August 12 than a rotation already thinned by Monday's moves.
