The Giants opened the series with a 5-0 win over Cincinnati on August 24, then followed it with a 3-1 win on August 25. Drew Cavanaugh went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI in the win, and Rafael Devers went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Carson Seymour closed it out for his first career save, and the club's own account noted it was a night of firsts for Seymour and Nate Furman alike.

The two wins over the Reds follow a three-game sweep at the hands of Boston from August 21-23, leaving the Giants 2-3 in their last five. At 54-78, they've now won consecutive games at Oracle Park for the first time in a stretch that had mostly gone the other way.

The rotation took another hit Wednesday: Adrian Houser will undergo an MRI on his right arm, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports, and he's listed day-to-day in the meantime. That comes a day after Pavlovic reported Carson Whisenhunt's MRI revealed a torn UCL in his left elbow, sending him to the 15-day injured list.

JT Brubaker is already out with bruised ribs, placed on the 15-day IL on Monday, per Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. Rubin also reported Monday that Willy Adames (left elbow sprain) and Victor Bericoto (right knee bone bruise) went on the 10-day IL the same day, with Bryce Eldridge placed on the bereavement list — a roster already down four regulars now short another starter, too.

The Giants host the Reds this afternoon, with Landen Roupp (7-13, 4.34 ERA) facing Nick Lodolo (3-3, 5.04 ERA). Roupp's last outing was a loss at Cleveland on August 20, when he allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings. Lodolo has struggled more recently, allowing 6 earned runs on 10 hits over just 3.1 innings in a loss to Arizona on August 21.

San Francisco is favored to complete the third win of the series, and the market expects a low-scoring afternoon. Given Lodolo's shaky last start and a Giants offense that's managed just eight runs across the last two games, that read fits a matchup that could come down to which bullpen holds first.
