The Mariners walked into Sacramento 2.5 back in the AL West and have spent 48 hours making the Athletics regret the schedule. A 9-2 beatdown Monday, a tidier 4-1 win Tuesday, and now Logan Gilbert on the mound to try and complete the broom job before Seattle goes home.

Gilbert is the right guy to hand the sweep to. His last time out he gave the Royals nothing across 5.2 innings — 6 K, 2 hits, 0 earned — and walked off with a no-decision because that's how his season has gone. The 2-4 record is fake news; the 4.04 ERA is the real story, and he's facing an A's lineup that just got outscored 13-3 in 2 nights.
Jeffrey Springs is the counter, and he's coming off the kind of outing that lingers. The Padres tagged him for 4 earned in 6.1 on May 22, with 3 of those runs leaving the yard on solo shots. A flyball-prone lefty in a series where Seattle's bats have woken up is a problem the Athletics did not need stacked on top of losing Aaron Civale to the 15-day IL with shoulder tendinitis.

The injury board is doing the A's no favors beyond Civale either — Jacob Wilson and Max Muncy still aren't back, and Denzel Clarke just got a PRP shot in his hamstring. Seattle's not exactly whole with Cal Raleigh on the 10-day with an oblique and Brendan Donovan working through a groin PRP timeline of his own, but the lineup that just dropped 13 runs in 2 games is clearly playing fine without them.
The market has Seattle as a -127 favorite and a -1.5 chalk on the runline, which tracks given the way this series has gone and who's throwing. The total split is the more interesting tell — Pinnacle has it at 8.5, DraftKings hung 9.5, and the public is pounding the under at 62% of bets. With Gilbert's command back and Springs coughing up homers, picking a side on the number is the gamble. Picking the Mariners to leave Sacramento in a different mood than they arrived is not.
