Miami is 19-22, Minnesota is 18-23, and somehow both teams are walking into this one feeling slightly better about life. The Marlins took 2 of 3 from the Nationals over the weekend. The Twins just snapped what had been a 5-of-21 stretch with back-to-back wins over Cleveland and are now home for a 9-game homestand they badly need to cash in on.

The pitching matchup is where this gets interesting in the wrong way. Eury Pérez carries a 5.01 ERA and has dropped 3 straight starts, including a 5-run clunker against Baltimore where manager Clayton McCullough was reduced to complimenting the shape of his slider. Bailey Ober isn't exactly cruising either — the Nationals roughed him up for 5 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings his last time out. Two guys looking for a reset, and one of them is going to find it tonight.
The market sees a coin flip and that tracks. Pinnacle has the Twins at -107 and the Marlins at -103 on the moneyline, with the total parked at 9. That's a polite way of saying nobody's confident either of these starters gets through 6. The run line tells you the same story — Miami a full run dog at +124 isn't a price you see often for a road team in a pick'em moneyline game, which is the spread market basically betting on a 1-run final.
Both teams are also patching things together. The Twins' rotation has been a M*A*S*H unit all year — Pablo López and David Festa are on the 60-day, Mick Abel is dealing with elbow soreness, and Walker Jenkins is out in center with an AC joint sprain. Miami's bullpen is thinner than it should be too, though Pete Fairbanks is expected back from the IL on Wednesday, which doesn't help tonight but matters for the rest of the series.

One footnote worth filing: Pérez threw shutout ball against this same Twins lineup back in 2025. Small sample, different season, but if he's looking for a spot to remember he's still the guy scouts liked, a banged-up Minnesota lineup at home is a reasonable place to do it. Otherwise this has the look of a bullpen game by the 5th, and at that point you're just hoping your guys can hold it together longer than theirs.
