Christian Scott (4-4, 3.80 ERA) is set to start for the Mets, and he needs to find his form again before Wednesday's 6:40 PM ET first pitch. Over his last four turns entering this weekend he's been rocked for 14 runs across 20 innings, and his most recent start against Houston was the ugliest yet — 5 walks against a single hit allowed. Tampa Bay hasn't announced a starter for the finale, so the pitching matchup card is only half filled in for now.
The bullpen and lineup pictures matter just as much here. New York is already without closer Devin Williams (shoulder), Cionel Perez and Reed Garrett, and Juan Soto has been out since late July with a calf strain, though he's been doing on-field work at Citi Field with a September return still in play. Tampa Bay's rotation has taken its own hits — Ryan Pepiot is done for the year after hip surgery and Griffin Jax is still working back through rehab starts — but Junior Caminero and Yandy Diaz have kept the lineup humming through it.

For Tampa Bay, the calculus is simpler and heavier: every game the rest of the way carries playoff weight, and doing it with a rotation missing Pepiot for good and still waiting on Jax to finish rehabbing is the real test of this stretch run.
