Kirby, meanwhile, was the one visibly annoyed after his last start despite the quality line. He matched a season high with 3 walks and 104 pitches in a game his offense gave him nothing in a 7-2 loss. Velocity was up, the strikeouts were there (10), and now he gets the Orioles in his park instead of theirs. The Orioles, for their part, are 34-40 and coming off a stretch where they took 2 of 3 from San Diego before getting on a plane west.

Baltimore's rotation depth chart still reads like a hospital intake form — Bassitt, Kremer, Povich, and Eflin are all on the shelf, with Eflin done for the year after Tommy John. That's a big part of why every Bradish start feels load-bearing right now. Win this one, fly home with a split still in play heading into the series finale. Lose it, and this trip starts to feel like a long one.
