On the mound — starting pitchers.

Philly drags a 35-30 record north of the border for a Monday opener, and the pitching matchup is roughly as one-sided as a June matchup can look on paper. Sánchez (7-2, 1.46) just snapped a 50.2-inning scoreless streak — the 5th-longest in MLB history and the longest ever by a lefty — by giving up exactly 1 run to the Padres last Wednesday. Corbin (2-2, 3.98) draws the home assignment for Toronto.

That ERA on Corbin's line is doing some heavy lifting. The 36-year-old has failed to make it through 5 innings in 4 straight outings and is sitting on an 11.48 ERA over that stretch per Blue Jays Nation, which is the kind of run that gets a guy bumped to long relief once Dylan Cease and Max Scherzer come off the IL. Today he gets the Phillies. Cool draw.

Recent form.

The Phillies have won 4 of 5 and just dropped 9 on the White Sox on Sunday. Toronto has actually been fine at home lately, taking 2 of 3 from Baltimore over the weekend with back-to-back 6-4 wins, but losing Daulton Varsho's bat in center and still waiting on Alejandro Kirk thins out a lineup that was already short Anthony Santander and Addison Barger. Asking what's left of the Blue Jays' offense to chase Sánchez is a tall order.

Pinnacle has the Phillies at -170 with the run line a coin flip at +100/-113. That's a heavy number for a road favorite, but it's the kind of price the market hangs on the best pitcher in baseball facing a guy whose xERA says regression has been overdue for a month. The total sits at 7.5 with juice to the under, which tracks — Sánchez has gone 7 innings in 3 of his last 4 and the Jays' offense without Varsho and Kirk isn't built to slug their way out of trouble.

If Toronto wants a window, it's probably innings 1-2 against a Corbin who's been getting punished early, and hoping Sánchez finally has a human start at some point this calendar year. The smart money says they don't get either. Phillies in a quiet 4-1.
