Arizona came in already thin in the bullpen after multiple relievers were lost to season-ending injuries, a hole the preview flagged before first pitch, and Texas leaned on its early lead because its own rotation is still without Nathan Eovaldi and Jack Leiter. Neither club had much length in reserve if the game stayed close, and for a while it looked like it wouldn't have to.
