Texas took the opener 5-4 on Friday behind a Burger/Osuna double-double in the eighth, then Detroit punched back Saturday 5-1 thanks to a Dillon Dingler 443-foot, three-run blast off Kumar Rocker in the first inning. Now it's a one-game series with national eyeballs on it.
The pitching matchup tells most of the story. Jack Leiter (1-2, 5.17) has been hittable — eight hits over six innings in his last start against the Yankees, with a 6.64 ERA across his last 20-plus frames. Detroit, meanwhile, is rolling Tyler Holton (0-1, 5.54) as an opener, which means A.J. Hinch is essentially asking his middle relief to win him a baseball game. That is a very different blueprint than what Texas walks in with.
The market sees the bullpen game as the better bet. Detroit is the home favorite at -115 with the public hammering them on the moneyline (62% of bets, 60% of handle). Both sides carry negative EV per the model, so this is not a screaming spot — it's a coin-flip dressed up as a -120 home chalk.

The injury lists are a mess on both sides and worth a long look before first pitch. Wyatt Langford is in Detroit with the team but parked for another week with the forearm. The Tigers scratched Gleyber Torres (side) from Sunday's lineup, are without Javier Baez and Casey Mize, and Kenley Jansen just blew a save against Atlanta and is day-to-day. The back end of Detroit's pen is the soft spot, and on a night they're already piecing innings together, that matters.

Both clubs are basically a .500 team with a real lineup question. Detroit has won three of five and is hitting at home; Texas dropped the middle game and has been the anemic offense in this series. If Leiter can navigate five and the Rangers' bullpen holds, this is winnable. If he hands a third-inning lead to the Tigers' middle of the order, the Detroit opener gambit becomes the story.
