Ryan Feltner (2-2, 5.20) gets the ball for Colorado against Edward Cabrera (4-3, 4.86) in a rematch of the June 11 matinee that started this whole stretch. That one did not go well for Feltner — 4.1 innings, 6 earned, 75 pitches, an L next to his name. Cabrera, meanwhile, was the guy who beat him: 5.1 innings, 2 runs, 5 strikeouts. Same two guys, 5 days later, different ballpark.
The Cubs are running hot. They've won 4 of their last 5, including Monday's 5-4 walk-off win that was Chicago's MLB-leading 9th walk-off of 2026. Matt Shaw drew the bases-loaded walk to end it, and Pete Crow-Armstrong cycled in a losing effort — which is a hell of a sentence to type about a Rockies pitching staff that just gave up 23 runs in Sacramento on Saturday and then watched a 1-run lead evaporate in the 9th here. The bullpen is held together with tape.

Colorado's injury list reads like a depth chart. Kris Bryant is still shut down with back issues. Brenton Doyle (oblique), Jordan Beck (hamstring), and Mickey Moniak (ankle) are all on the 10-day, gutting an already thin outfield. The rotation lost Chase Dollander to UCL surgery and Jose Quintana to an elbow sprain. They're calling up Sean Sullivan from Triple-A Albuquerque just to fill innings. There is no cavalry coming.

- 60-Day-ILHunter Harvey RP — The Cubs moved Harvey (triceps) from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
The Cubs aren't exactly whole either — Justin Steele, Jameson Taillon, and Matthew Boyd are all out of the rotation, which is why Cabrera is asked to carry this much. But when your lineup features PCA in cycle-hitting form and your bullpen just walked one off, the margins look very different than the team that's 27-46 and starting a guy whose last outing against you was a 6-run grease fire.
Pinnacle has the Cubs at -175 with a total of 9.5. That's a steep number, but Colorado has dropped 4 of 5 and lost the series opener despite getting a cycle out of the opposing center fielder. First pitch 7:05 PM CT.
