None of that changes the shape of the day: two clubs with little at stake beyond the stat sheet, closing out a series in front of whatever crowd shows up for a Saturday matinee in September.
Detroit's form actually looks fine on paper: 3 wins in the last 5, including taking 2 of 3 from Minnesota, and they head into this one on a 1-game winning streak. Colorado's is the opposite story — 4 straight losses, punctuated by getting outscored 21-7 across the finale in New York.
The bigger problem for both sides is health. Colorado's rotation losses are extensive — Chase Dollander is coming off elbow surgery, Welinton Herrera is done for the season with a torn UCL, and both McCade Brown and RJ Petit are already shut down — while Detroit is still waiting on Verlander to work back from hip and hamstring issues of his own.
None of it points to a marquee afternoon, but for whichever arm actually takes the mound to close out this set, it's still the only game on the schedule that matters.
