Colorado has lost its way to 103 defeats, but the lineup had a lot of fun Saturday. Goodman hit his 40th and 41st homers, and Ezequiel Tovar, Brenton Doyle and Luisangel Acuña also went deep. Davis Martin got only 2 outs before he was pulled, and Ryan Feltner covered 3⅔ innings in relief. Andrew Benintendi's 3-run homer in the 9th was too little, too late.
The set is tied at 1 after a 6-1 Sox win in the opener and Saturday's Rockies slugfest, so this is technically a rubber game with nothing at stake. Chicago is 3-2 over its last 5 and Colorado is 1-4, but those numbers came when the White Sox still had a division to chase.
Colorado's injury list is long and mostly settled. Willi Castro is done for the year, and Kris Bryant, Chase Dollander and a group of relievers have been gone for months. Chicago's list is the one that matters this week. Castillo's shoulder, Joey Bart's hand fracture and the catcher situation with Rogers away all shape the roster the Sox take into Tuesday, and that's why nobody important should be on the field long on Sunday.
