Royals at White Sox, Tuesday night at 6:40 from the South Side. Two teams a couple games under .500 with very different vibes — Kansas City's rotation has been carrying them, and Chicago is once again hunting for runs on a homestand that's supposed to be the soft part of the schedule.

Stephen Kolek gets the ball for KC riding the high of a strong 2026 debut — six innings, three runs (all on one homer), no walks, eight straight retired to finish his start in the win over Cleveland. He's only in the rotation because Cole Ragans hit the IL with a left elbow impingement, but the Royals will happily ride him while the No. 1 is shelved. On the other side, Erick Fedde's 0-4 record is doing a lot of lying — the 3.79 ERA tells you he's pitched fine, the run support has not. His last time out the Angels tagged him for three homers in under five innings, so the long ball is the variable to watch.
The number the bettors care about is Bobby Witt Jr.'s career line against this White Sox staff. He carries a 23-game hitting streak versus Chicago into the series, hitting .462 with 19 RBIs and 13 extra-base hits across that run. There is no scenario in which Will Venable's club doesn't have to game-plan around him, and the South Side bullpen isn't exactly set up to navigate it cleanly.

- 60-Day-ILMike Vasil RP — The White Sox transferred Vasil (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.

- 60-Day-ILBrooks Baldwin LF — The White Sox transferred Baldwin (elbow) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.
Both training rooms are full. KC is without Ragans, Carlos Estevez, Jonathan India (season-ending shoulder surgery) and a chunk of the bullpen. Chicago is down Kyle Teel, Austin Hays, and a long list of arms — Andrew Benintendi's neck is the day-to-day to watch in the lineup. The under at 9.5 is priced like the market expects another low-scoring grind, which tracks given Kansas City's rotation ERA and Chicago's offensive ceiling right now.
Bottom line: Royals are -125 on the moneyline for a reason. They've got the better pitching staff in this game, the better hitter on the field, and a recent road history against this team (23 of the last 26 at Guaranteed Rate) that's nearly unfair. White Sox need Fedde to keep the ball in the yard and somebody — Murakami, Montgomery, anyone — to manufacture a couple of runs early. Otherwise it's another quiet night on 35th Street.
