First pitch is 12:10 PM ET at Tropicana Field, and somehow this matinee features two starters carrying sub-1.65 ERAs. Troy Melton (1-0, 1.42) goes for the Tigers opposite Nick Martinez (5-1, 1.62), which is a goofy stat line for a getaway-day game in early June.
Detroit is 24-38 and still flipped the script on the AL's best team in back-to-back nights — a 10-9 slugfest Monday, then an 8-0 hammering Tuesday where Gleyber Torres returned from his oblique strain and homered on the first pitch he saw. The Tigers strung together six extra-base hits in the first two innings off Steven Matz and never looked back. For a lineup that hit .204 in May, that's the kind of jolt that travels.

The flip side: the Rays are 36-22 and just got outscored 18-9 at home by a last-place team. Tampa's bullpen is also a mess of red tags right now — Craig Kimbrel hit the IL with a wrist strain over the weekend, and Taylor Walls is day-to-day with a hamstring. Kevin Cash needs Martinez to go deep, full stop.

Martinez has earned every bit of that 1.62. He carved up the Angels last time out, 7 innings, 2 ER, 5 K, no walks on 88 pitches. He's the reason Pinnacle has the Rays at -144 even after getting punched in the mouth two nights running. The Tigers see him for the first time this series, and Melton — making just his fourth start of the year after an elbow scare — is the wild card. Small sample, sure, but he went 7 strong against the White Sox last time on 89 pitches.
Total sits at 7.5 with the under juiced to +108, which feels about right for two arms throwing like this even with the Tigers in launch mode. If you believe in Detroit's bats carrying over a third straight day against a top-three ERA in the league, the moneyline at +130 is sitting there. If you think regression is overdue on both sides, the under is the play. Either way, the sweep attempt is the only story that matters.
