Dean Kremer needed all of one hit against him to turn in his best strikeout game since April. He worked 6 innings, allowed just a 4th-inning leadoff single to Vaughn Grissom, walked 3 and struck out 8, and picked up the win to move to 4-5 on the year. Angels manager Kurt Suzuki had no complaints about the matchup afterward: "He's just a veteran guy, knows what he's doing on the mound, keeps you off balance."

Ryan Johnson couldn't get out of the 5th, charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, though Suzuki defended the underlying stuff after the fact: "I thought actually RJ pitched better than the line that he had — no walks, six strikeouts, soft contact." It didn't matter much with an offense that struck out 11 times and never threatened to put a runner in scoring position behind him.
