Sean Burke (5-4, 3.71 ERA) draws Shane Baz (4-8, 4.31 ERA) for a 6:35 PM ET first pitch at Camden Yards — a matchup that favors the visiting starter both on paper and in recent form.
The White Sox come in with real momentum. Chicago exploded for 22 runs against Kansas City on June 26 — the second-largest win in franchise history — then came back and won 2-1 the next afternoon. Burke has been the steadiest arm in their rotation: in his last start against Cleveland, he went 6.1 innings and gave up 1 run on 6 hits, continuing a stretch where he has quietly become one of Chicago's most reliable starters.

Baltimore is in rough shape heading into this one. The Orioles dropped 4 of 5 against the Angels and Nationals, capped by a 6-4 home loss to Washington on Sunday. The defense has been sloppy — 7 errors over their last 4 games — and the offense can't bail them out. Gunnar Henderson, the franchise's cornerstone, has described his 2026 season as 'probably one of the most frustrating things I've ever been through.' He's slashing .224/.293 with a .706 OPS through 73 games, the strikeout rate bleeding runs out of an already thin lineup.

Baltimore's injury list hits harder than Chicago's. Jordan Westburg had Tommy John surgery and is done for the year. Ryan Mountcastle has been on the 60-day IL since spring. Felix Bautista — the closer — is still sidelined with a shoulder issue. Chris Bassitt just landed on the 15-day IL after having bone spurs removed from his back. Chicago is missing Munetaka Murakami (hamstring) and Austin Hays (calf), but their lineup still has enough to punish a struggling Baz. Andrew Benintendi hit .250 with 6 home runs across 20 games in June, and Chase Meidroth has been a consistent .293 bat at the top of the order this month.
Baz signed a 5-year, $68 million extension with Baltimore this spring, but the season has been a rough audition for that contract. His last start — 5 innings, 5 earned runs against the Angels — was the kind of outing that has kept him at 4-8. He has had quality starts in 5 of his last 7, so the floor is higher than that line looks, but the White Sox are in a better place to exploit a bad night than most. Sharp money drove the total line down significantly from its opening number — which tracks given both starters lean toward keeping this game in check if things go right.
