On the mound — starting pitchers.

Will Warren (6-1, 3.55) gets the ball for the Yankees against Jacob Lopez (4-2, 5.73) with first pitch at 4:05 PM ET at Sutter Health Park. Warren's been the quiet rotation MVP — he's also 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 19 strikeouts in his career against the A's, so this is about as friendly a matchup as he gets.

Lopez is the other side of that coin. A 5.73 ERA with a 1.77 WHIP tells you most of the story, and his last start — 3.2 innings, 4 earned, 7 hits, 3 walks against the Angels — tells the rest. The Yankees already hung 8 on this staff Friday before dropping a 6-4 game Saturday, so the lineup has reps against this group and a clear edge on paper Sunday.

The bigger story for the A's is the rotation that's left. Luis Severino exited Friday's start after one inning with right arm soreness and landed on the 15-day IL with a shoulder strain, joining Aaron Civale (shoulder) and Gunnar Hoglund (done for the year after hip surgery) on the shelf. That's three starters out, and it shows up in the bullpen workload every time Lopez gives them a short outing.

New York isn't fully healthy either — Max Fried, Giancarlo Stanton and Jasson Dominguez are all still working back, and Amed Rosario just hit the paternity list — but the lineup that's playing is rolling. The Yankees came into Sacramento on a 4-game winning streak with a 15-1 and a 7-0 stuffed in the middle of it, and at 35-23 they look much closer to the team people expected in March.

Market thinks the same. Pinnacle has the A's at -758 to lose the game outright, with the run line a Yankees -1.5 and the total sitting at 10.5. Take the series, fly home, and remember that the next time someone tells you the Yankees can't win on the road.
