This is the matchup the East has been pointing at all year. The Pistons ran the conference wire-to-wire on their way to 60 wins, the Cavs added James Harden mid-season and went 19-7 with him on the floor, and now both sides drag themselves into Round 2 on fumes after going the distance against Orlando and Toronto respectively.

Cade Cunningham is the engine that makes the Pistons go and he was outrageous in Round 1 — 227 points across the series, second only to Shai in postseason scoring. The Cavs counter with Donovan Mitchell, who has now scored 30+ in 9 straight series openers, an actual NBA record. If you wanted a Game 1 with two guards trying to one-up each other, this is the bracket spot for it.
Cleveland's case is size. Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen give the Cavs a frontcourt Detroit can't really match, and that's the lever Kenny Atkinson will be pulling all series — slow it down, hammer the paint, make Cunningham guard somebody. Detroit's case is the building. Little Caesars was a problem for visitors all year and the Pistons are 1 win from home-court value already in the bank.

- Day-To-DaySam Merrill G — Merrill (hamstring) did not return to Tuesday's 111-101 loss to the Pistons in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, finishing with one assist in seven minutes.

- OutKevin Huerter G — Huerter (adductor) has been ruled out for Tuesday's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Cavaliers.
Kevin Huerter being unavailable is a real subtraction for Detroit's spacing, particularly in lineups where Cunningham needs a release valve on the wing. Not a series-swinger on its own, but in a Game 1 where both teams are running on 1 day of rest, every shooter matters.
The market has Detroit -3.5 and that feels about right for a top seed at home against a team that just played 7 games. The total at 215.5 is the more interesting number — two defenses, two gassed rotations, and a playoff whistle that always tightens up in the second round. The public is pounding the over (85% of the handle) which is usually a fade signal more than a confirmation. Tip is 7:08 ET and this one should be a grind from the jump.
