TLDR: Denver finishes its exhibition slate Friday night in Los Angeles, 6 days before the games start counting. The Lakers come in with a problem they still need to fix: they gave the ball away 30 times their last time out.

Denver closes its preseason in Los Angeles after a stop against the Clippers, 6 days before the regular season starts. The Lakers' starters looked sharp in a 101-89 exhibition loss to Golden State. Reaves scored 28 and Kessler debuted with 11 and 9, but 30 turnovers and a collapse in the 2nd half cost them the game. How many minutes Jokic and Doncic play will decide what this one shows.

Denver Nuggets
  • Jokic-led core playing its preseason tune-up
  • Bounced back from Boulder loss with 117-106 win at Utah
  • Plays the Clippers 2 nights earlier on the same trip
  • Spencer Jones limited by hamstring, non-contact only
Los Angeles Lakers
  • Starters led Golden State 63-50 at halftime
  • Reaves had 28 points and 7 assists in 25 minutes
  • Kessler gave them rim protection in his debut: 11 and 9

This is a preseason game, so judge it that way. Friday's tip at crypto.com Arena is 7:30 PM PT, and it's Denver's 5th and final exhibition before the 2026-27 season opens on October 22. Nobody is chasing a result here. The Nuggets have used October to get their rotation set around Nikola Jokic, and the Lakers are still working out how Walker Kessler fits next to their guards.

The Nuggets have one more stop before this one. They play the Clippers on Wednesday, the second half of a Los Angeles back-to-back trip that ends at the Lakers' building. That game will show how much Michael Malone's regulars are playing this late in camp, and that matters more for Friday than any score. As of now, Denver's preseason has gone both ways. The Nuggets opened with a 109-97 loss to Utah in Boulder, then won 117-106 in Salt Lake City 2 nights later.

The Lakers' last game started well and went bad fast. Against Golden State, the starters built a 63-50 halftime lead and stretched it to 20 early in the 3rd quarter. Then the Warriors ran off 22-6 and took the 2nd half 51-26 for a 101-89 win. It was their 2nd preseason win over LA, and they got it without Draymond Green and Al Horford. Luka Doncic sat that one out to rest.

There were real positives for LA in that loss. Austin Reaves scored 28 points with 7 assists in 25 minutes. Kessler had 11 points, 9 rebounds, a block and a steal in his debut, and he looked like the rim protector the Lakers went out and got. The bad part was the ball security. Reaves had 7 of the team's 30 turnovers, those turnovers turned into 26 Warriors points, and the giveaways have been a problem all preseason. Jokic's Nuggets are about the last team you want to play loose against.

Denver's injury news is minor. Spencer Jones is day-to-day with a hamstring and has been limited to non-contact work. The Lakers haven't said whether Doncic plays Friday, so check before tip. If both stars play extended minutes, this is a decent first look at Jokic against Kessler. If they don't, it's a look at the end of both benches, and that's how the Lakers' last game got away from them.
