Utah has no game in between, so its situation is easier to describe and harder to look at. The Jazz have lost 2 straight and are 1-3. The latest was a 110-105 home loss to a Memphis team that never trailed after a quarter. That was also Utah's second loss to the Grizzlies in 5 days.
That Memphis loss could carry over into Wednesday. Markkanen's right hand got caught between a screener and a defender with 5:58 left in the 1st quarter and bent back toward his forearm. He didn't return. Early in the 2nd, someone landed on Jackson's leg. He tried to play through it, went to the locker room, and was shut down for the night with a right knee injury. Both are listed day-to-day, and nobody has said how serious either injury is.
The Jazz are also missing big men. Jusuf Nurkic is out at least 4 weeks with a partial plantar plate tear in his right foot, Jaxson Hayes (shoulder) sat out the Memphis game, and guard Trey Alexander has a bone bruise in his left knee. If Markkanen and Jackson both miss Wednesday, Utah could be starting a very thin frontcourt against a 7-foot-4 shot-blocker. On the other hand, the short-handed Jazz still won the 4th quarter against Memphis 29-21, so there's some fight in the group that's left.
So the game comes down to 2 questions. How much does San Antonio have left after playing Sacramento the night before? And who actually suits up for Utah? Tip is at 7:00 PM MT at the Delta Center. Watch for the Jazz injury report between now and then.
